Peace Of Marlene is the slow-fashion label of Dutch artisan Marlene Rietveld. Marlene has been sewing since childhood. She lives and travels in her hand-painted caravan, gathering inspiration on the road in Portugal — and she works just as happily during her stays back in the Netherlands.
Without a fixed address it was impossible to register her studio in Portugal, so Peace Of Marlene is a Dutch brand, born on the road. Solar panels on the caravan roof power her sewing and overlock machines. Sometimes she rents a workspace; more often she simply sews outside, in the Portuguese sun. It is a free life — and everything she experiences along the way finds its way back into her creations.
Every dress, kimono duster, skirt and hat is cut and sewn by hand from upcycled and deadstock natural fabrics. Each piece carries the name of a Portuguese or Dutch place that inspired it.
